Who we are

Get Uganda Coffee is a marketplace for Robusta coffee in Uganda. This policy covers the Get Uganda Coffee website, the Get Uganda Coffee app, the Get Uganda Coffee Agent app for field agents, and Get Uganda Coffee on SMS, USSD and WhatsApp.

What we collect

• Your phone number or email address, name, and your business's name, district and store location.
• Lots you post, including photos, and the reservations, payments, deals and ratings you take part in.
• Mobile money numbers used for deposits and payments.
• For field agents: GPS location at check-in, measurements and photos taken during visits.
• A device token if you allow app notifications, and basic error reports when the app crashes.

Permissions on your phone

• Location: used while you use the app, to record where your coffee is stored when you post a lot and, for field agents, to confirm they are at the store. Get Uganda Coffee does not track your location in the background.
• Camera and photos: used only when you choose to take or attach photos of a lot.
• Notifications: used to tell you about your lots, reservations and payments. You can turn them off at any time.

Why we use it

• To run the marketplace: verify lots, take deposits, connect buyers and sellers, and settle disputes.
• To send you sign-in codes and updates about your lots and reservations by SMS, WhatsApp or notification.
• To publish an anonymised price index. Index figures never identify a buyer or seller.
• To prevent fraud and keep records required by law.

Who sees it

• Buyers see a seller's rating, district and an approximate location. The seller's name, phone and exact store location are shared only with a buyer who has paid a deposit.
• Get Uganda Coffee operations staff and the assigned field agent see what they need to verify lots and handle disputes.
• Service providers who process data for us: hosting and database, SMS and WhatsApp messaging, mobile money operators, push notifications, email and error monitoring.

Where it is stored and for how long

Get Uganda Coffee's database is hosted in the European Union (Ireland). Messages, notifications and other operational records are deleted after a set period; trading records are kept as long as the law requires.

Your rights

Under Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted where we are not required to keep it. Download your data or make a request from your account page, or email privacy@canephora.ug. See how to delete your account.

Children

Get Uganda Coffee is for businesses and adults. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and tell you in the app before the change applies to you.
